Individual Scholarships Information

To be considered for scholarship aid, you will first need to apply for the Global Village and be selected to participate. Please indicate on your application that you will need such assistance in the section of the application entitled "Statement of Needs". Applications of qualified candidates are first sent to the Selection Committee. If selected, this Committee will mark the file of outstanding applicants who have expressed a need for financial assistance and those cases will be forwarded to the Scholarship Committee for consideration. Please note that scholarship funds are severely limited and applicable only to partial tuition assistance.
The Scholarship Committee usually only reviews requests for assistance from candidates who have succeeded in raising at least the majority of the tuition ($4,000) themselves. For this reason, those who are selected early have an advantage over later applicants. Also, chances for selection are greatest for early applicants. In order to insure diversity of culture, geography, gender and experience, the number of those selected from any one country, major field of study or employment, etc. is very limited. Therefore, applicants who apply early have a better chance that there will still be a spot available for someone with their profile. The Maximum Iacocca Scholarship awarded is $2500.00 USD.

If selected, we send you a selection packet, which includes a letter of acceptance from the Program Director, a letter of congratulations from Lee Iacocca and a letter of introduction explaining the program from the Candidate Manager. These letters have proved very helpful to past interns in their individual fundraising efforts. Also, please note that housing and local transportation for scheduled trips that are included as an integral part of the Global Village curriculum are included in the cost of tuition. However, the scholarships committee NEVER awards funds to cover the costs of transportation to and from Lehigh's campus in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, nor to cover food, medical insurance, initial deposit or other personal expenses during the six-week program.

Flex Scholarships Information

All FLEX alumni must apply for the Global Village program the same as any other applicants. The easiest way to do this is by our website (click here) and applying directly online.

Application Deadline February 15th, 2008

APPLICATION DEADLINE: All FLEX applications must be received by February 15, 2008 to be considered for the FLEX/ Iacocca scholarships

FEES: None; the $50.00 application fee is WAIVED for FLEX applicants.

MEDICAL INSURANCE: FLEX applicants will be provided with medical insurance coverage during their time in GV 08.

ELIGIBILITY: All FLEX candidates must complete a Statement of Eligibility sign it, fax a copy before the February 15th deadline, and mail the original to us to be received at a later date. (click here)

SELECTION PROCESS: Selection and scholarship award is a two-step process. If a FLEX alumnus/a is selected to participate in the Global Village, he/she is then considered for a joint FLEX/Iacocca full tuition scholarship. Those awarded such full tuition scholarships must pay only their own airfare, meals and personal expenses for the Global Village.

SCHOLARSHIPS: Some FLEX applicants are selected but do not receive the full tuition scholarship. Of course, they may still participate if they can raise the necessary funds ($6,500 tuition plus airfare and personal expenses) themselves. Sometimes the Selection Board is so impressed with a FLEX applicant who does not receive a full tuition scholarship that the Committee recommends a partial Iacocca scholarship be awarded (usually covering approximately 50%, i.e. $3,000USD of the tuition.) Please note that housing and local transportation for scheduled trips that are included as part of the Global Village learning activities are included in the cost of tuition and therefore covered by a full tuition scholarship.

AIRFARE AND PERSONAL EXPENSES: The costs of round-trip transportation between home and Lehigh's campus in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and the cost of meals and personal expenses during the six-week program period (estimated at between USD $900-$1600) remain the individual candidate's responsibility whether a full, partial or no tuition scholarship is awarded. Airfare, meals and personal expenses ALWAYS remain the responsibility of the individual. In the past, many FLEX participants have succeeded in finding outside sponsors to help defray these expenses as well.
