What are the expectations?
Global Village Guides are models of servant leadership, of teamwork and of self-restraint. Guides will have ample opportunity to model these traits to our Village Interns by accomplishing the following general responsibilities – mentoring, training, facilitating and coordinating. In addition, a guide has numerous complimentary roles which may include: Facilitator, Project Mentor, trip or recreational event staff leader. In order to be a successful guide you should plan to spend a minimum of 50-60 hours per week interacting with the GV Interns which may include some evening and weekend commitments.
GV alumni Guides and all international Guides reside in the dormitories with the interns. Resident Guides often have additional assigned tasks on evenings and weekends.
GV alumni Guides bring invaluable experience and perspective to the Guide position as they have been exactly where their interns are now. This ability to closely identify with their interns has advantages and disadvantages. Guides must be constantly alert to ensure that they maintain the proper professional distance; Guides are staff and represent the Iacocca Institute and Lehigh University at all times during their employment.
