Pennsylvania Governor's School for Global Entrepreneurship, Lehigh University

June 29 to August 2, 2008

This summer marks the 8th year of the annual Pennsylvania Governor's School for Global Entrepreneurship for outstanding high school students from throughout Pennsylvania and around the world. The Governor's School is one of eight schools in Pennsylvania , each specializing in a different area of academic study, operating under the office of the Pennsylvania Governor's Schools of Excellence.

Working in partnership, Lehigh's College of Education and College of Business and Economics develop the applied curriculum and deliver the five-week residential academic program during the summer from June 29 – August 2, 2008. The Governor's School students are academically gifted 16- and 17-year old high school students from across Pennsylvania and around the world. Sixty-four students are from Pennsylvania and twelve are international students. Last year our international students represented England , Antigua-Barbuda , Italy , Ireland , Belarus , Israel , Palestine, Kuwait , Guatemala , Columbia and Denmark .

The purpose of the Governor's School for Global Entrepreneurship is to expose Pennsylvania high school and international high school students to the topic of global entrepreneurship, leadership and effective business practices and to ignite the students' spirit of creativity, innovation, and learning. The applied curriculum includes core and elective courses, entrepreneurial exchanges and excursions, team projects with business partners, and a variety of other interactive experiences and activities.

The students are housed on Lehigh University's campus, and enjoy food and recreation using facilities at Lehigh and in the Lehigh Valley. The courses are held in academic buildings at Lehigh, and taught by Lehigh faculty members as well as entrepreneurs and leaders of the business community. All students attend core courses, as well as have the option to select elective courses each week. Entrepreneurial exchanges with leaders from business, industry, government, education and the non-profit community are a part of each daily schedule, as are entrepreneurial excursions to local sites of interest. Students will participate in educational visits to the New York Federal Reserve Bank, United Nations, Mercantile Exchange, Philadelphia Ports and Constitution Center . Last year, student teams worked on-site at local companies and non-profit agencies including Just Born Candy, PBS Channel 39, City of Bethlehem, ArtsLehigh, Morris Black & Son, PPL, Northampton Museum and Genealogical Historical Society, Valley Youth House, Wish Designs, Allied Separations, JF Magic and Center for the Arts.
