The Art of Managing Employee Expectations: What Savvy Leaders Do

The challenge of managing employee expectations persists from the time a company opens its doors. New recruits have wide-eyed expectations of an exciting career. Employees with experience seek to move up. Seasoned managers often settle into roles that they don't want to see changed. Others in jobs with declining value wait for packages. The leader's greatest challenge is to ground employees in the reality of the marketplace and the workplace. This session will provide insights into the leadership techniques that drive a culture of realistic expectations among employees at all levels: an understanding of the business, what it takes to succeed, the significance of choices, and the role of professional development. Creating a Culture of Innovation to Survive and Thrive the 21st Century

Welcome to the 21st Century where the world is flat, commerce and information cross borders instantaneously and people around the world are struggling with soaring energy prices, food shortages, the impact of global warming and a financial crisis. The impact of a series of great convergences is putting pressure on airlines, automotive manufacturers, appliance makers, builders and more. Thanks to globalization and information technology, 3 billion people were connected to the world in the last ten years and now the surge in demand from Asia is impacting every aspect of our lives. The solution to these challenges is the same as it has always been; it is not the strongest, richest or most powerful that survive, but the most adaptable, and the means to adapt is through innovation. Participants will define the essence of innovation; learn what comes before one can implement a method to innovate; dissect the essential mental qualities of an innovative team; discuss innovation in action; and explore the tools and techniques to be successful. Does Your Leadership Matter?

Ever wonder what separates a great leader from a poor one? Or what separates a leader who can transform an organization to deliver exceptional performance, from one who runs it into the ground? These are questions Davis Taylor asked, and he’ll share the answers he found—the “not-so-secret” secrets of transformational leadership—using examples from his book, The Imperfect Leader. Taylor’s experiences span twenty-three years in corporate leadership roles and seven years working with senior executives in the US, Asia and Europe. This session will help you be a better leader at work, at home and in your community. Past Leadership Breakfast Programs List

How Leaders Achieve Effective Execution

Why is successful execution so difficult? How does one execute effectively? Most organizations fail to execute as effectively as they could. In hospitals, over 200,000 people annually die needlessly because of the failure to execute proven safety procedures. In business, more than 2/3 of all major initiatives (acquisitions, mergers, reorganizations, new product launches, etc.) fail to achieve their stated objectives. Globally, McKinsey found that only 7 out of over 1,000 large multinational firms financially out-performed their peers for any 5 consecutive years in the past decade. Jim Collins found that even among companies with "good" performance, less than 1% were capable of producing "great" performance. Think of your own experience in customer service, product quality, reliable advice - how often have these been effectively executed? In this session participants will discuss how to achieve effective execution now, with no additional resources and with reduced risk. Past Leadership Breakfast Programs List

How to Improve Performance, Productivity and Profits

Henry Ford said, "You can't build a reputation on what you are going to do." Every day leaders are challenged with having the right people in the right roles doing the right thing in the right way at the right time and for the right reason. Successful leaders in top performing organizations stamp out uncertainty and costly wasted efforts by setting clearly defined goals, roles and responsibilities; tracking and measuring progress and results; they hold their people accountable and implement consequences. Lucy Ivins, a leading business coach to the Las Vegas residential and commercial construction industry, will provide insight to improve performance and productivity and, thereby, increasing the bottom line using proven leadership and management principles. We will define the competencies required for a leader to be a good coach and lay out a plan of action so that each participant understands how to develop their coaching skills and use them to enhance team performance. Leadership and the New Brain Science

Are leaders born or made? We pose that question as an "either/or" when the answer is "Yes" because of the bifurcated (left and right side) structure of our brain. While most people tend to be stronger in one side or the other, next generation leaders must learn to use both sides for optimum problem solving and people solving. In addition:

  • Spindle cells may be the secret of the speed of social interaction
  • Mirror neurons establish the biological need for leaders to model behavior
  • Neuroplasticity gives us a brain designed to change in response to experience

Ms. Novak weaves science and stories to demonstrate what it means to be a whole-brain leader and why the future will belong to the whole-brain leader and follower. Past Leadership Breakfast Programs List

Mind of the Leader

The Mind of the Leader program is based on Dr. Spencer's innovative concept that "the key to better performance is having a clearer Preconscious Mind".  The Preconscious Mind is that part of our mind that is outside of our immediate awareness but where things can still be easily recalled. When we become busy or overwhelmed, our Preconscious Mind becomes 'flooded'. This negatively impacts our mood, our focus, our relationships and ultimately our performance.  This is true for many leaders, especially during this stressful time of the recession. During this program, Dr. Spencer will share secrets of the mind that have helped thousands of people thrive in the face of personal and professional challenges.  We will learn how the mind works best, skills to clear the Preconscious Mind, and why tending to the Mind is vital to present and future business success.

OODA Loop: Playing Offense while the Market and Competitors Play Defense

While studying fighter pilot and aircraft performance, energy and maneuverability during the 1960's, USAF fighter pilot Col. John "40 second" Boyd stumbled upon a concept which would drive fighter aircraft tactics for years to come.  His empirical research led him to a basic decision-to-execution cycle which can be found in the pattern of almost any conflict: military, business, personal or athletic.  His theory is based on four conditions which make up the mnemonic: OODA.  His work has influenced systems-thinkers from all walks of military and business life.

In this discussion, Boom Daniel will break down the OODA Loop for the Leadership breakfast  group and drive to how they can improve their own business practices by embracing such a philosophy. Past Leadership Breakfast Programs List
