In last month's newsletter, an overview of Assessment Centers was provided. To recap, an assessment center is not a physical place, but rather an approach to skills development used by professionals who recognize the opportunity for improvement in their workplace performance. Various techniques are used to evaluate individuals while they perform activities in the workplace simulation. Participants' skills evaluated include: planning and organizing, communication, leadership initiative, decision-making, and teamwork. A feedback report is provided so participants can use their results to develop skills that may lead to improved productivity and possibly future promotion. Learning and developing skills applicable to the international environment can be challenging. At the Iacocca Institute, we develop programs and activities critical to global and local leadership centered on entrepreneurship skills, business and industry knowledge, and how to work with and leverage a diverse global network. One such program is The Global Village for Future Leaders of Business and Industry® (Global Village). International applied management and cross-cultural training skills are at the center of the Global Village program. Worldwide professional candidates apply to train during the six-week summer program, with over 90 other high-potential managers from more than 40 countries. The program is focused on enhancing the participant's professional skill sets for positions in all manners of international business including entrepreneurial firms, family businesses, international conglomerates and government. Attendees participate in learning opportunities including 57 interactive, seminar-style courses and panels; company projects and multi-cultural teaming experiences; small-group executive meetings; international business development competitions; and on-site visits to local companies and organizations.
