Professional Development in the Global Arena

Learning and developing skills applicable to the international environment can be challenging. At the Iacocca Institute, we develop programs and activities critical to global and local leadership centered on entrepreneurship skills, business and industry knowledge, and how to work with and leverage a diverse global network. One such program is The Global Village for Future Leaders of Business and Industry® (Global Village).

International applied management and cross-cultural training skills are at the center of the Global Village program. Worldwide professional candidates apply to train during the six-week summer program, with over 90 other high-potential managers from more than 40 countries. The program is focused on enhancing the participant's professional skill sets for positions in all manners of international business including entrepreneurial firms, family businesses, international conglomerates and government. Attendees participate in learning opportunities including 57 interactive, seminar-style courses and panels; company projects and multi-cultural teaming experiences; small-group executive meetings; international business development competitions; and on-site visits to local companies and organizations.

“There was no program for professionals with this kind of richness and diversity. So we built it,” said Richard M. Brandt, Director of Global Lehigh and the Iacocca Institute.

Upon completion, attendees join a world-wide alumni business and social network of over 850 leaders representing 100 plus countries in Asia, the Middle East, Africa, North and South America and Europe .

“In a changing world, a first step toward leadership is taking advantage of a genuine opportunity. A second is recognizing others that do the same,” said Lee Iacocca, the contributing founder of the Iacocca Institute at Lehigh University.

Partnering with the Global Village provides companies and organizations with the opportunity to be involved, engaged and a part of this dynamic international business network. Opportunities for involvement may include:

  • Supporting a rising professional would benefit from an international experience to attend the program
  • Visiting the program at open events such as our international business development competitions (country panels);
  • Proposing a company consulting project that requires a multi-cultural team (no cost to your company) such as:
    • Development of an international marketing plan
    • Feasibility study for new potential international markets/market entry
    • Evaluate current business plan for a new start up firm
  • Host a site visit for our attendees at your location/company;
  • Participate with our attendees as a visiting executive, facilitator or panelist
  • Co-sponsor Global Village scholarships in target countries, jointly selected
  • Mentor a Global Village project team
  • Host a Business to Business function with the Global Village

For information on participating in the program, please call 610.758.4440.

For professionals who may have an interest but lack a six-week summer window to attend the Global Village program, the Iacocca Institute also builds Global Village on the Move programs. These seven to ten-day culturally-based international business programs are held periodically in locations around the global. Focused on regional business, upcoming program locations including Hong Kong for 2008 and Ukraine for 2009.
