INTERNATIONAL INTERNSHIPS
The program enabled NovaTech to obtain market feedback on design features for our next generation product. We can proceed with less risk as a result. Our intern was selected from a group of well qualified candidates and performed as we expected – professionally and competently. Program administration by Lehigh was superb.

WHAT IS AN INTERNATIONAL INTERNSHIP, EXACTLY?

An internship is a carefully monitored work or service experience.  Both a mentor at the work site and a mentor at Lehigh University will oversee the student’s experience.  Features of the experience include:

  • A 6 week or longer project or experience, (part-time or full-time), typically during the summer months
  • A specific “agenda” or position structured around a project or a defined level of work-related activities
  • A reasonable balance between the intern’s learning goals and the specific work or requirements of an organization, that promote career and/or personal development
  • An organizational mentor or supervisor whose role it is to define work activities related to the business or a specific project, identify any required short-term training, and to contribute the time to mentor and monitor the intern
  • The equipment, space and tools necessary for the intern to be successful with their assigned tasks International interns are not paid. Funding is provided through a gift from Lee Iacocca to pay for expenses related to travel to and from the host country arranged through Lehigh University, and also accommodations, meals and in country transportation arranged by the host organization.
